Beginners Pilates

Pilates is an exercise system that focuses on stretching and strengthening the whole body to improve balance, muscle-strength, flexibility and posture. It was created by German-born Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s and incorporates elements of yoga, martial arts and Western forms of exercise.

“In 10 sessions, you feel better, 20 sessions you look better, 30 sessions you have a completely new body.” Joseph Pilates.

An Introduction to Pilates is a mat based beginners class for those totally new to Pilates.  The basic key principles of Pilates are covered at the start of every 10 week term, and the exercises chosen are of a level appropriate for complete beginners.  The key principles of Pilates are control, breath, concentration, flow, centering, and precision.  You are taught the basic structure of the most common Pilates exercises eg. Swimming, Rolling Back Like  a Ball, the Hundred,  Single Leg Extension, Double Leg Extension etc and you will understand how to adapt the most common Pilates Exercises to suit your individual needs.  Belinda works closely with each individual to ensure understanding of a neutral spine, how to set the core abdominal muscles for maximum benefit for the participant and what adaptations to employ moving forwards.

We usually have dedicated beginners’ classes in January and September every year for a 10 week term.  At the end of this term participants would then transfer into one of our Mixed Ability Classes within our regular timetable.  The cost of the 10 week term is £90 and spaces are restricted to 12 places per block.
